During our visit to Warsaw and Krakow we had the opportunity to taste Polish wine and learn more about the wine industry in Poland, whose history dates back to the 10th century. Like many old -world wine producers, many traditional grape varieties still survive in Poland, perfectly suited to their local wine hills. After the collapse of communism and return to capitalism, the market economy returned and international wine companies moved back in and a period of consolidation followed. Modern wine production methods have taken over in the larger wineries and EU style wine regulations have been adopted.
We visited Poland during December 2017 and the Christmas Markets are a sight to behold and the perfect place to try the local gluhwein (mulled red wine with aromatic spices) and to warm up with the snow lightly falling all around you. (2017)
