Liechtenstein

The small country of Liechtenstein, that lies in the Alps between Austria and Switzerland, is ideally suited to wine production due to the steep, limestone rich, south-facing slopes and enjoying on average 1,500 hours of sunshine each year. Liechtenstein wine of the Rhine Valley is regarded as boutique, artisanal and to be of high quality but limited production, as there is only 64 acres under vine with most of their wine being consumed domestically. We tried a local Chardonnay whilst sitting at a café in Vaduz, the capital of Liechtenstein. There are also tastings available in the historic setting of The Princely Winery including their “Herawingert” vineyard, that are known for their Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines. (2025)
