It was great to be back in Burgundy for a week to explore the wineries along the Cote de D’Or.
We spent our days visiting wineries in the Chardonnay villages of Meursault, Puligny Montrachet Chassagne Montrachet and the pinot noir strongholds of Aloxe- Corton, Nuits-St-Georges and Gevry- Chambertin as well as the interesting village of Ladoix.
Wineries we particularly liked included:
- Maison Chanzy – their new cellar door is in the beautiful little village of Puligny- Montrachet and like most Burgundy winemakers they produce a range of white and red wines from a range of different plots and villages from throughout Burgundy including Maconnais and Cote Chalonnaise. The cellar door experience is one of the better ones in Burgundy.
- Chateau de Meursault, a good cellar door experience with a range of premier cru and grand cru wines to taste.
- Chateau Corton C in Aloxe-Corton
- Compte Senard in Aloxe-Corton which also has a nice little restaurant.
- Edmond Cornu & Fils, a father, and daughter winemaking team in Ladoix.
Restaurants of note included:
- Au Fil Du Clos, a lovely restaurant in Chassagne Montrachet, perfect for a lazy lunch with a wine list featuring particularly good wines by Jean-Marie Bouzereau.
- Clos du Cedre, a Michelin restaurant on the ring road of Beaune for that special dinner.
- Ma Cuisine, one of the best restaurants in Beaune with a great wine list.
- La Table du Square, a relaxed outdoor restaurant on the ring road in Beaune
We will be back in Burgundy in August to complete our WSET Level 3 in Wine course at Chateau Du Pommard.
